We've had our boat for seven years, without either.

There are a couple of things we've added that would be "must-haves" on NextBoat (Stand up messers Webasto, Waeco & Parasail).

I've got the chance to dry out, scrub up and touch up some one year-old Chi-immersed-all-year Uno† next w/e, or wait a bit, and spend ten times as much and consider fitting a folder to replace 22 yo OE prop at the same time.

What say the peanut gallery?

Bilge keeler, not got time to do coppercoat properly myself; haul out is around 1/4 the cost of Coppercoat. i.e. avoiding ~£250 craneage is a major factor; now and in future.

† Think I might give the Trilux boot-top a miss this time, 'tho - it's been smart, but high maintenance.

I think if you are going to keep the boat long term coppercoating would be the way to go. Dunno if it might suit you to do this but I dive under with mask, snorkel, wetsuit & weights a few times a year to scrub off (Albin Vega 27ft). It's a good workout & means you don't have to lift out every year...:)

I would delay the copperboat for a year. A tin of Uno is going to set you back £54 from Luke at Percy M See in Fareham. The folder will add at least 1/2 knot under sail. It looks like you have some other big bills for heating and fridge etc too. We bought our Webasto in the middle of July last year when e bay prices seemed to bottom out.

The fridge and heating were our initial priorities.

Unless I'm really clever then adding a folder would still involve the hauling-out cost - maybe I need to do the "scrub & a/f on a tide" as a rite of passage.

After wintering in a marina, I really noticed the speed cost of the fouling. - and if you're gonna scrub, then you may as well re-paint, and if your gonna repaint, then you may as well coppercoat...

Our heating & fridge are now previous years sunk costs - following the "it's easier to drop £500-£1000 on the boat you've got than spend >£5K for an extra 3 foot of waterline length on new boat" idea.

Did you position the heating control within reach of the master cabin? ;->

There is going to come a time when there is simply nothing you can add to that boat!

A folding prop seems ever so extravagant on a twin keeler. I love the boat mate but is speed really that important?

Copperbot (or t'other one, I'm not quite sure) is going onto Phoebe this week and can potentially save us a fortune down the years. Every time we scrub, we basically ruin the antifouling so its worth having.

Phoebe also has a folding prop on order. Naturally Magic has one but my experience with taking the copperbot off of Feeling Rough and seeing the extra layers it adds to the hull and keel, we wont be going that way with magic as it will add too much weight. That said, she will of course be scrubbed very regularly so the antifouling wont last either.
