Does anyone have experience of these ? How practical to ride any distance back from a boat on a tour round UK ? How reliable ? Any second hand sources ?
Thanks,
Ken

Perfectly OK if you are a 3ft 6 inch Orang Utang and want to die violently under the wheels of an artic.....

The ones that I have seen are made for midgets. Surely it is not beyond some enterprising co. to come up with a more practical two seater motor bike that could be readily assembled using basic tools. No single piece should weigh more than 40 pounds or so. Non corroding wheels/frame/chain(belt) no frills at all just as basic as would be street legal. Has to be taken ashore in the dink. I would buy (at a sensible price) in a heart beat

nearest you get to it are the go-peds (motorised skateboards with steering and brakes) unfortunately in UK you have to wear a crash hat and be insured registered etc unless you go for the really slow ones. They are perfectly adequate for 2-3 miles and quite a lot of fun.

We have had a de blasi for a couple of years

Brilliant bit of kit, made a real difference o n our last up rhine trip, to get to shops etc, can give you the london dealers no if required

Not shure you would want to go further than 20 miles on any moped !!!

Try and find a Honda ST70. perhaps a little bulkier than a foldaway. But fits two people criuse at 40mph! propper little 4 stroke engine and believe it or not handles ok.Havent been made for a few years, but there are still some good ones out there. C G Chell in Stafford has new 50cc Chinese copies.HE may have an ST70,got his number post me if of interest. Was a bike dealer for some years hence Kawasaki!

ive used a small honder,as well as asmall scooter and several mopeds, the bigest problem is theift,i had the scooter longest, but was a reall pain to ship ashore, thought 99% of the time i would go to the fule bearth and just push it off fuel docks mostly being higher to catter for motor boats
We have a 40foot center cockpit motor sailor so stowing the bike wasent such a problem we just lashed it to the davits.then got it off before mooring.
It made a real difference but in Italy Greece and Turkey we had a few problems becouse of the registration

One other improtent point insurance for the mopeds (all sizes) cost £28 pa for the scooter £140!!!!! i shouldent say this but as we had bought the scooter i declared it as a peugeot 50cc and paid the moped tarif, In corsica the police were a bit unsure about its validity, but let me off reminding me that next time they saw me without a helmet it would cost me 98euros.!!

Oi! Just 'cause I'm only 3ft 6ins there's no need to call me a midget.
I'm vertically challenged, alwight.
Going out with a big bird tonite - she's 4ft 10ins. Got long legs ent she.

And I ride a motorised skate board. No tax, no insurance, 200miles to the litre.
Beats all your big toys, dunnit.

These things are all the rage with teens here in Florida. No ins.no helmet no drivers licence. The little bu**ers ride them on the pavement and rarely get nicked for it. I had more of a two seater in mind to keep SWMBO happy. May have to get an old Tomos or similar and see what can be chopped off to get the weight down!
