Just been to a branch of a large well known hypermarket in Spain and picked up a folding bike for a mear 69 Euro (which is about £48) Admittedly it is not super high quality but it does come with 6 speeds, alloy wheels etc etc . Only weighs 14KG Should last a few years in the locker!

We bought in Carrefour in Cartagena last September and rust is the issue. I paint on the local Spanish de-ruster that looks a bit like kaolin & morphine mix. (not the one that looks like Bitter Kaz) and liberally paint over any rust patch the moment it starts (i.e. from day 4). BUT, provided you keep the rust at bay it is OK - the plating is so thin it is only really to make it look pretty in the shop. I paid a bit more than you.

Am just thinking, if buying a new bike, it could perhaps be a good idea (?) to spray the metal frame with one of those cold galvanising paints, and then use a harder paint to finish off with (eg a 2 pack) - attack it from the start, rather than from day 4!
