Came across an advert for http://www.fogsmarinecleaning.co.uk, thought I would give it a go as have noticed a decline in boat speed recently, was a bit dubious at first then after Phill had done his stuff with his equipment , we decided to take the boat for a quick spin, and low and behold I have back just over a knot of boat speed!(its alot for a raggie) very happy with the service and the cost was definatley worth while, the guy is very customer focused and is keen to please. Charges start at £1 per foot for boats berthed in a marina, and £1.50 for boats on trot moorings, this I think it depends on how badly fouled you are, mine was last lifted in September and was mainly slime so It cost £1 per foot, but it obviously works. It also enviromentally friendly as it leaves the paint intact. He also offers other services like washing, waxing and polishing using all eco friendly products etc which are keenly priced but have not used these yet so cannot comment. Its still early days for his business and he is about to start an Enterprise Programme with the Princes Trust, but there is a bit more about him here http://eastcoastboating.co.uk/wordpress/?p=1007

I've just cleaned the whole of my undersides while the boat's still in the water with mask, snorkel, wetsuit & weights on, using a scourer and a scraper, the second time I've done it since she was antifouled a year and a half ago. It took two goes, about 2 hours in total and hard work so if he can do a similar job for a quid a foot it's got to be worth a try. I wonder if he could patent and franchise it, good luck to him...

I am around 9 months in to buying and trialling a Brizzo sponge-on-a-stick. Which scorners will scorn at, but it really does the biz, quick, easy and efficient though using the dinghy for one side is trickier than turning the boat.

10 minutes per side, plus a scrubbing brush along the waterline for the weed, once a month.

I may have to dive on the prop at some time, we shall see...anodes are v easy even holding a breath or two..

Boat last antifouled April last year, my trialling is that if the thing saves just ONE annual haulout it has paid for itself 3 times over ( and it was secondhand).
looking good so far, 3 coats posh ablative down below and 4 coats of Trilux around the waterline. The paint is cheap, the hauling is expensive.

( And last year the boatyard machinery kept breaking through failure to accept the dire warnings of those wot worked it and spend preventatively on hydraulic seals, v tedious, lots of lost business and good will, hello Brizzo!:)
