Would it be considered bad form to ask Dover Harbour control to turn off the fog horn between 11-30pm and 7-00am. Cos if this fog doesn't clear I wont be able to sleep.

This rule applies to commercial vehicle reversing horns.

And you can hear it in Canterbury, I scarcely hear ours and only 1/2 mile away.

NB but I do have failing faculties!

Earplugs are a necessary part of every ship's stores.

Puts me in mind of the townies who moved into the village and complained about the cock crowing in the morning!!!

Earplugs, essential part of ship's stores.

Reminds me of townies who move into the country and complain about cows mooing cocks crowing and the like.

Is this a wind up ? cos I find it hard to believe anyone would even contemplate such a thing
I wonder where they would tell you you go if you did call them.

Err... you're joking right?!

11:30pm to 7am; that's not even eight hours' sleep!

I'd ask for at least 22:00 'til 09:00, and until 23:00 on Friday and Saturday evenings, but that means not starting up again until 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Ah, yeah - I took it for granted that there would be no foghorns at all on bank holidays, but I suppose we should get it in writing.

I called to complain about the bell buoy that I could hear at a popular anchorage. They were extremely rude, I just thought it was out of order not to muffle the bell at night. Totally unnecessary now we all have GPS.

I am not sure if the coastguard was being serious when he said it is nothing to do with us, typical civil service attitude of someone else's problem. I never did write to his boss like I promised to.
