Last Saturday, 22nd June a remarkable event took place at the Souter Lighthouse, near South Shields on the east coast to mark the demise of the humble foghorn.
Involving not just the foghorn itself but 3 brass bands and many ships sounding their horns, this event would have passed me by but for a chance reference found during a BBC website search for something completely unrelated.
