Not often that I undertake a passage in fog but had to return from Cowes today in a "pea souper" .......guess the vis was down to less than 100yds mid way between mouth of Medina and mouth of Beaulieu.........not for the faint hearted!!
Anyone else out there today in the same conditions??

Hi Dave ,There may have been another P42 out there going from Lymington to portsmouth but i dont suppose you would have seen him :D

All ok Dave , apart from the fact that ( ironicaly ) the radar is playing up , screen comes up saying - no HW , whatever that means

Hi Andy - Trust you and Jo are feeling better today ;)

Colin and Helen left around 14.40 we had a great time with these guys in Rivaaz the night before.

We left Berthon Marina @ 15.10 and arrived back @ Haslar around an hour later. Visibility was a lot better by then - Sea state was flat as a pancake - we cruised back doing around 21 knotts @ 2800rpm using radar as a back up - bit foggy still around Cowes @ that time though.

Shame camera was in cabin @ that time as would have been good to take a few photos for you guys.

See you all again soon - KR Terry

We left Cowes about noon on Sunday heading back towards Southampton.

The fog was thick and down to about 100-150m until close to Hamble.

Good opportunity to check that the radar was still working (don't use it very often these days), and appreciate the benefit of AIS.

I stayed in the shallows close to Bramble bank hoping not to get run over by any of the ferries but there seemed to be a lot of people out there fishing in the shallows who only showed up on radar.

I can't say that I ever feel relaxed in fog, even with all the electronic paraphernalia because I am always on the lookout for someone speeding out of the mist. Bit like driving on the motorway where one is still at the mercy of someone else whio isn't being quite so cautious.

Cheers

Garold

Glad I made the right decision, I was planning to be in Cowes Sat & Sun, but was concerned about the fog and mist weather reports on Friday, for a while just couldn't make my mind up. In the end decided not to go, but spent Sunday in the garden thinking it so calm I should be out there, I feel better now seeing this thread.
