Faced with the same problem of not using the FM aerial for the Marine radio, I bought a "BMW" internal aerial which sticks to the inside of the windscreen = yacht window, and which is amplified. Installed in 2004 still going strong. Cost £10

Get a Roberts Ecologic1 radio. Ours picks up FM and DAB with just its telescopic aerial. It works from its own rechargeables or the ships battery. Excellent little radio. We use it on board nearly all the time.

I used to have a Sony DAB radio on board with a proper DAB dipole aerial. Very good, but too heavy on the battery so it's now in the car. I've removed the aerial from the boat.

Why DAB? A much wider choice of stations.

I installed an aerial splitter to use the masthead VHF aerial - didn't seem much better than laying an car VHF aerial in a locker up against the bottom of the deck.

I did the same. Bit like throwing a blunt javelin; a pointless exercise.
