The previous monkey mechanic has used some wonderful stuff which has coated half of the engine compartment - YUK !

Ideas please?

Thx

John

ps before the "experts" start off on a tangent, it is NOT an oil leak :-)

Are you talking about a Dynastart and a belt onto the flywheel or a conventional starter witha pinion engaging with a ring gear on the flyweheel.

I'd think no grease whatsoever in the case of the Dynastart and only the barest minimum in the case of a pinion/ ring gear. A dry graphite spray maybe .

:eek:NO grease at all on starter or flywheel. It wont stay on the flywheel more that ten minutes and if it is put on the starter, eventually bits of muck will stick to it and the pinion will not retract once the engine starts, the engine will then be driving the started motor.

Clean it all off and avoid the 'mechanic' like the plague!

Thanks

Its a real starter with teeth and all - repaced the dyna - wont - start unit with a real starter - its GREAT.

Will try to get old grease off the ring gear....before it clogs up the starter unit :-(
