I am thinking of fitting a second radio on the flybridge, we got involved with a low key rescue yesterday and i only have a radio on the lower helm, ended up running back at too between the two.

I want to get a DSC, does anyone have experience of the new low cost models such as the XM DSC for under £200.

can you splice in and use the same ariel for two radio's,

do you need to turn one off when in use.

Not sure they have the range and when ever you want to use them the battery is flat, in fact they do not cost any less than a fixed radio.

What i would like to do is have a flush mounted mike socket (like the one on the front of the radio) on the flybridge dash, then when you move up stairs up plug the mike and plug in upstairs

not with my old valve set but you can get radios with a mike that changes the chanels, however, at leaset you would only have to jump down to change channel and not to make each communication

I have a Simrad. The main gubbins is kept down below in one of the cabinets, lovely and dry. I then have two sockets to plug the handset into, one below and the other on the flybridge. If it gets wet, well I'm in the UK so it always gets wet, no problems, the main unit is below nice and dry.

pretty sure RayMarine do a fixed set with the option of having 2,3,4 handsets pretty much anywhere...the set also doubles up as GSM phone so you can have a handset in the bog for those important can't wait phone calls.

Try Kevin at www.yachtbits.co.uk he's technical enough to have some options and competitively priced too.
