Hmmm.... pls explain why you drove from the roof rather than from the warmth, comfort and company of the inner helm.

Seems to me you really like the sports boat driving experience but've been conned into a wibbly wobbly f/b by the family /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Guilty as charged /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We all enjoy cruising upstairs in the sunshine and I was supposed to be following them down stairs but it meant dropping off the plane and I was enjoying myself too much.

Main point is although the weather was less than ideal, family still come with me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also made a point of hijacking all the chocolate easter eggs so they had to come /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gifHAPPY BIRTHDAY JKAY /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Torksey was my preferred destination for years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Been on the boat for a week, a few more days holiday yet. Just come back from Fowey, there and back on the fly.

Stayed in Fowey on a pontoon, no shore power, snug and warm, tv on.

Back in Plymouth, the cottage pie, Debs just made, is in the oven. Who wants a rag top. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It looks like the enclosed wheel house is the way to extend the British cruising season.

Summary

95% of Flybridge boats were used
60% went to sea

70% sports boats got used
60% went to sea

100% of enclosed wheelhouse were used
65% went to sea ( or Broads, Thames, rivers etc)

70% of sailing cruisers were used
60% went to sea (all that free power and still used less than enclosed wheel house)

Enclosed wheelhouse /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I suppose in the summer you could leave it on auto helm and put a deck chair on the roof /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was going back from cowes to christchurch with my flybridge Maxum in late september last year, in weather where spray was completely over the top of the flybridge canopy every wave.We kept going at 20 knots as we had to beat the tide. We were just about the only boat in the solent and definately the onlyone planning, apart from a few brave windsurfers.
Our flybridge is completley enclosed and we were in Sweatshirts.I recomend a full flybridge canopy to everybody as when everybody else comes back in frozen, wet and miserable on a blowey but sunny day,we are in what is a bit like a greenhouse with t shirts and smiles.
With the british weather it makes sense!

What next ?
aircon in the greenhouse so you dont have to unzip when the sun comes out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We go down stairs when the underpants and knickers start to get wet. Knowing that it's only a flick of a switch and a change of cloths. It's a bit of a laugh when waves come over the top.

Wash the mans mouth out, with soap and water. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Reminds me of a true story /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Mates Broom, half flybridge thingies

Anyway really rough, trip took 3 x as long as should have and his wife said

Mrs B 'I need a pee'

Mr B ' its far too rough for me to slow down you cant'

Mrs B ' I need to go'

Mr b ' you cant, its far too dangerous'

Mrs b ' I'm going'

Mr b 'you cant'

Mrs b ' I'm going, I'm going'

Mr b ' YOUR NOT'

Mrs B ' NO, I'm going............Im going now ' trickle trickle /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Apparently he also went in his wet weather gear /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Nope still love the green house.Driving from down below I cant see things such as fishing markers, bouys in the distance, changes in sea state and floating things and the view and over my bow or behind me, in fact to me the best place to steer is upstairs, where you can see everything and in the dry.Besides how many flybridge boats have a canopy to remove before setting off.We dont; we just remove it when it is warm enough to enjoy which was very little last year.We never got wet last year ,not even once.I feel calmer and more able to navigate and think straight and be safe when both myself and wife and children are dry and warm and comfortable . I have neven not enjoyed a trip because of the weather, wind rain spray or cold.

Now every body has their boat to suit their purpose and I am sure to some my green house is not the done thing for hardened sailors to do nor their cup of tea; but it sure makes it enjoyable for us ...every time, even when others are sat on the pontoon beacause it is too bad out there.

I thought only Americans put tents up on the flybridge.

Why buy a boat with an internal helm if you are going to enclose the flybridge?

Yep, but things always happen in the UK a few years late, besides the boat is american and I would find it hard to steer from inside with no helm. I find the no inside helm is worth it for the extra space, just my taste I suppose........and well, boats are mobile homes without wheels and they have tents:).........................I think I am digging a hole for myself here.
