I am looking for ideas as to an improvement to the strange, uncomfortable contraption meant to keep my bum out of the saloon.
The original fit appears to be a gouged out lump of something covered in flimsy white pvc, and 2 wobbly poles with a padded 4x2 loosely attached.
SWMBO would like the whole lot to fold down flat, so to attract all those solar emissions to put on her face and turn her knees red.
I'm thinking wide, firm upright backrest and same for bum, wing-nuts or flip catches on side supports, to let the lot lay flat when not engaging in mayhem creation etc.
Any reccomendations, apart from get a different boat?!!

bit off the wall maybe, but check out vw bus specialists. for around 60 quid most stock a "rock and roll" bed hinge mechanism. this is designed for the rear bench seat in buses, and would allow you to build a seat as you describe onto a glass covered ply box, which then folds flat for swmbo to get her knees burnt! A fair bit of work but it might just work... vwparts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Be wary; anything manufactured for car use (like the brackets suggested) will last no time at all in a marine environment.

There used to be a sun-lounger option on the range when new. It had extra seating, and it all folded flat.
Try Fibretrim, Tel: 01543 671433 they made the original, and have all / most patterns still.
Also if it's the original it's now over 15 years old, and lived on top of a boat.

I'd be delighted if I could get some details of your seating layout.
Could you possibly take a few photos to give me an idea of what is possible, please?
Many thanks
