I am flying to Kos to join a dutch friends on their boat and we intend saling along the southern Turkish coast, ending somewhere near Antalya where I will fly home from. They have already checked in, in Turkey as they have been out there some time. I am thinking that I will have to check in with Turkey when we get into their waters but is this the case. I would prefer not to be arrested as an illegal at the airport en route home as I have heard bad things about Turkish jails !!! so any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Midnight Express was a long time ago.There is a facility for cruise line passengers to enter/exit Turkey without needing to get a visa but what the procedure for arranging this is I do not know. Probably much easier to just to get a £10.00 90/180 day tourist entry visa. You can now do this in advance on line but you will still need to get an entry stamp on it when you check in.

If they're in Kos they will presumably have checked out of Turkey, so you simply enter the place as crew when they clear in again. Or are you saying your Dutch pals are...er...taking a bureaucratic short-cut? If so, this could place you in some difficulty. It may be that your best option would be to join them by ferry, thus entering Turkey legally, after they have returned to Turkish waters.

Hi, as you will be on there yacht. You have to be put on there transit log as crew. The skipper HAS to do this. When checking back into Turkey he will take the transit log to be up-dated along with all crew passports. Then you will have a visa stamped into your passport. All legal and above board. You will have to pay for the visa.

Agree with this with one proviso; If your friends have not checked-out of Turkey prior to picking you up in Kos then THEY could be in some bother. When they put your name on the crew list (as they must, as Peter rightly says) the Turkish authorities will want to know how you arrived in Turkey and if it turns out you arrived on a yacht that failed to check out of Turkey to pick you up then THEY will be in the brown smelly stuff not you.

Last month I flew in to Athens then to Samos, picked up friends who are resident in Turkey we sailed to Kos picked up the wife who had flown in from UK and then moved the boat to Marmaris. We then flew Dalaman to Istanbul then me back to work and the wife back to the UK. All no problem. We did clear in to Turkey in the customary fashion but did not bother clearing out of Greece.

Without knowing all the facts,it is not poss. to give an exact answer.
One way or another,you will have to check yourself into Turkey,as any other tourist needs to do, and thus get a visa on your passport.this is important, as without the visa you will not be able to exit Turkey.
If your friends have not checked out of Turkey before going over to Kos, you will have a problem if you go back to Tiurkey on their boat,as you will be asked how you arrived in Turkey ,and if you say that you came with them,they will be in deep s##t without any doubt.
Your best idea in this case would be to travel seperately to Bodrum on the ferry and obtain a visa when you get there,and then join them officially,getting yourself on to their crew list...this can all be done at the passport and customs offices on the quayside.
It's all quite simple and straightforward you don't need an agent .

Apologies if i have repeated the advice given by previous posters,but you need to be careful

@mocruising
Arent you concerened that you wont have an exit stamp in your DEPKA ?
I did similar to you last month but on way to Bodrum we diverted to KOS simply to get the appropriate exit stamp.

@curlysue - as per riviona, I did similar to you last month and had no problems - but I did go to customs in Turgutries to get visa and entry stamp. This was exit stamped when I flew home.Wife and familly joined boat in Turkey and were all added as crew on the TL when they arrived
