I have warning lights and buzzers on my fly bridge. I can check that the buzzers working. But how do I check that the light and buzzer actually comes on, when say an engine over heats.

I've had doubts about them since the boat was rewired.

with the engine switched off, remove the sensor and then switch on the power, and plunge the sensor into a cup of v v hot water. Crew will recline gently on flybridge and inform the engineering department if 'owt happens.

Replace sensor; make tea with water.

Approach depends on whether your sensors are isolated from the block or not. in non isolated circuits your sensors will have only 1 wire on them, assuming this then Ignition on, engine not started oil pressure light should be on. Remove wire from pressure sender, light goes off ( so does buzzer )

To check Water over temperature wiring, remove wire from sensor and short to block, light should come on and buzzer sounds. If that lot works then look at the sensor and it's trigger temperature should be stamped on the body. If its below about 90 deg C than you can test it by immersing it in a boiling kettle for 2 or 3 minutes ( the co-efficient is quite long ) and check for short with a meter between the tag and the casing when it gets hot.

hlb's oil pressure dial said zero and the buzzer buzzed.
So I replaced the sender and the pressure switch on the engine
Volvo td 41b.
Sorted.
The info/noises were present below but not on the Flybridge.

hlb, unless conditions are atrocious, helms from above.
Concern is therefore, if nowt shouts upstairs, there could be trouble ahead!

The senders concerned are not isolated by the by.

Only hlb is isolated.
Which is no concern!
