Flookin\' good idea?

I was meandering over on MOBO forum, and they had a thread on Anchoring. Well thats always good for a bit of leg pulling and bold claims, so I entered.

It seems that Jimmy Green Marine are having a fire sale on these 5kg Flook anchors at 13 quids a pop, delivered.

Well it seemed like the kedging bargain of the year, so I bought one.

It turned up today, complete with a holiday 2006 guide to Devon(nice touch Boys), and on inspection I appear to have a bargain by weight at least.

I am told they glide gracefully, and I have been to the site showing massive grip for little effort, and it also appears you can spear all your enemies on the glide path.

So, Panel, is this a good thing or am I well flooked?

Re: Flookin\' good idea?

mine arrived today as well, it must have cost them at least £5 to send it so the £13 was bad.

I'm a bit concerned that we have both been done though because it says "Made in Australia to work better down under". Perhaps it only works in the southern hemisphere

:-)

Re: Flookin\' good idea?

Jim I'm getting seriously concerned about your boat, having followed with great interest all the bits you've put on it from it's inception,a quick run down with a guestimate to the weights involved would, and allowing for normal provisioning indicate that you have only about 3 inches of freeboard in normal trim left to play with! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Don't lift the keel.

Re: Flookin\' good idea?

Nah, I have had waterproof dodgers fitted all the way round. The keel acts rather like the point on a shooting stick now. Also puts the open transom level with the water, much easier to walk on and off the dinghy.
So thats 4 anchors on board, but I am fascinated to see what happens when I launch it into a 3 knot spring tide. I have an idea it will stay exactly where it is, or even travel backwards to meet us, while getting deeper.

Come on guys/gels, somebody else must have played with one of these!

PS: Wont need any of those PBO marker thingies you sent me!

Re: Flookin\' good idea?

We had a chat about these last night at Wokingham meet. Owners and people who had seen them in action impressed, and at least one had ordered on this week.

I saw one demonstrated at mercury marina a few years ago - it really does glide well, and once dug in under pontoon opposite, took some extraordinary measures to get it back out (involved someone from yet another pontoon with wet suit and diving gear!)

Re: Flookin\' good idea?

I think it sounds like a wizard wheeze to launch an anchor into the marina after a few rounds of rocket fuel. Good call Brendan.

Re: Flookin\' good idea?

err, no, just a mate showing me how it worked as I didn't really believe it would glide as well as he described.

The demonstration worked a little too well.

Others in the meet last night own them, and also describe it working same way.

Re: My mistake

Ken, you are nicked mate, we will be down en votre bateau tout de suite to relieve you of your hard earned drugs.
Below is a short transcript of a portion of Sy Borg, the tune wot Zappa wrote when on an altered psychology.

<<This is the central scrutinizer... you have just destroyed one model xqj-37 nuclear powered pan- sexual roto-plooker and you’re gonna have to pay for it! so give up, you haven’t got a chance.>>

"Zappa wrote when on an altered psychology."

Possibly, but I'm not entirely sure. Sy Borg is from Joe's Garage, a treble album which is a story about the state banning music because of its depraving effect upon youth. There is a remorseless logic about the whole thing, from Joe's early beginnings in a school rock group, to him coming out of jail, and finding a job in muffin factory.

I still listen to the entire 2 hours worth one or twice a year.
