Roberto Thanks for the pictures. Before we went on hardstanding our boat was tied up one boat away from the grey power boat in pictures #'s 3, 6, and 7. Very frightening. If the water rose 4.5m right at that point then my boat would have floated away somewhere. I wish I could see a picture pointing away from the river which is where my boat is located.

sorry I may be late, I think your marina has already given you the info you need, communications are up and running again in most places.

If it's not like that, you may try calling

Capitaneria di porto di Carrara

+39.0585.64670

or email

marinadicarrara@guardiacostiera.it
cpcarrara@mit.gov.it

they have towed back into the port of Carrara several dozens boats which were rescued in front of the Magra river.

Every detail you can give beside the name/size of the boat may count, for example if you have a US flag on the stern (which is rare), or if the hull is painted bright pink, etc.
They may have towed back 100-200 boats and if you wait for the whole precise list to be prepared you might be in for a couple of weeks waiting time.

If you have any problems with language, just PM me

Roberto:

Thank you very much for taking the time to put all the detail in the email. The broker who sold me the boat was able to contact Signora Cinzia and found that my boat The Italian Job was fine. The yard was muddy but the boats on hardstanding were not affected.

I did not realize that you were Capitaneria di porto di Carrara. My family and I love your marina. It is a very friendly place and clean and wonderful. We stayed were there for a couple of visits. My children loved going to the streets of Carrara for the evening Passeo (this is the word in Spanish). We expect to stop there again on our way to Sardinia this coming summer. Hopefully I will have the pleasure of meeting you. I must repeat how wonderful it was to sit at the bar in the afternoon, have a drink, and play cards. It is good to see that the corinthian spirit is still alive.

I am very glad to know your boat is fine, it must not be easy to watch and try to understand the extent of what is happening from another continent, and not knowing what has happened to your own boat

btw no sorry I have no connections with marina di carrara (though I have lived for years in Florence), but have read quite a few reports about river Magra flood on Italian forum and tried to pass on to you what people in Italy has found useful to do to get information about their boats there

all the best for your future trips :)
