Just back in the water and the engine started first time, ( Volvo 2003) but had to turn it off quick as the throttle control was stuck. I found that the lever and cables were fine but at the engine end the lever that operates the throttle and stop button was stuck solid. took both levers off- gave a quick squirt of WD and then worked the levers back and forth till they freed up nicely. bit of grease and hey presto- fixed...

BUT - now it wont start at all.....

Is it possible that I've flooded the engine with diesel whilst working the lever to free it? If so, what's the solution to get it started again?

all help gratefully received..

You can't flood a diesel, but you might have jammed the stop device in the stop position, by working it outside its normal travel, beyond the range in which it has worn some clearance. A quick diagnosis, slacken the injector pipes to injector nozzle joints to see if diesel is coming out, at full throttle, if not, it's a stuck stop lever problem, assuming all else is equal.
