My Holman 26 went to be launched today, unfortunately she took on a load of water, and the bilge pump was overwhelmed-water got over the gearbox, but not the engine itself. The engine was not running at the time. What is the best way to extract the oil from the crankcase and gearbox. Its a Beta Marine 10 engine, with a stock transmission.

i searched the forum but most of theses tend to deal with flooded engine while the engine is running

This is definitely a case for phoning Beta. I would remove a small much water as possible by using a Pela pump or similar. Put clean oil in and run engine and then repeat maybe a few times until your confident no water remains. Others more qualified might be able to help if you repost this on the PBO forum.

Good luck

Many Beta engines have a pump for emptying the sump. If not use a Pela as suggested. Use that also for the gearbox. However, doubt any water has got in because there is nowhere for it to enter, at least with the gearbox and the engine only if it gets fully submerged. Remember the lower part of the engine is sealed to stop oil and water from getting out so no way in.

You can buy a oil extraction tool for about £10. I got one recently to change my gearbox fluid.

Looks like a giant syringe with a flexible plastic pipe instead of a needle. Useful bit of kit to suck up any small amounts of fluid.

In your situation I would do it quickly to prevent rust.

Well I went yesterday; the flooding was high, but not for long. There were no signs of water engross- the threads of the oli filler were dry and the transmission dipstick was too.
