Flirty fishing - or \'Overboard Outboard Revisited\'

Some will remember my appeal for ideas re 'dredging for an outboard', so here's an update.

The first visit, mid-week, produced nuttin'. I tried a borrowed magnet and, apart from hordes of nails'n screws, no luck. I lashed numerous poles, and a gardening claw, all together and spent an hour ploughing the oozy bottom of the marina where I'd been told the thing had fallen in. No luck, but much amused interest from adjacent pontoons.

Then, this weekend, I linked up with my friend(s), who told me whereabouts it had *actually* fallen in. A quick flurry with some string, drain rods, and my hooky-thing. Two minutes later, success.

One slightly soaked Seagull!

I've posted a photo so one can see the happy smiling faces - and the plumber's drain rodding kit and 'garden hookit' I used to hook the d****d thing. Every boat should have one. It worked well, so I can recommend the notion. Lookee here...

BTW, matey is a highly-qualified PADI diver, but 'qualified warm waters only'!!!

Well done!

Years ago I lost a winch (fortunately only a small one) which I had positioned on the side-deck to judge it's position. Spent ages in the marina mud at low water, but never found it, though did retrieve a few flagons of home-brew that I'd dropped a couple of years earlier --- at least they were in excellent condition. (the marina finger WAS only 9 inches wide!).

Outboard (Yamaha 2hp) has also been under quite a few times to no ill effect!

you mean we wasted hours of valuable forum time, giving you explicit detail on how to recover it, only for you to tell us you had the location wrong! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well done!

It shows it is worth perservering.

If sealine take any longer to get the replacement screw I ordered last year then i will have to get a diver out to my boat! unfortunately it's only 8mm dia and stainless steel so non magnetic.

I've made a lifelong habit of getting things wrong - as my wife will readily tell you.......

But many thanks to all those who shared their thoughts and ideas; it all helped. And as for 'did it work?', I left that part of the exercise to the machine's hapless owner, and went to the pub for a swift Butcombe's. He can get covered in glaur while I bask in the sunshine......

Looks like you also managed to hookup an old bicycle, numerous power tools and bits of wood too ... wow!
Not sure what that big white thing is at the end of the pontoon - is it a wild mushroom gone out of control ?? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Flirty fishing - or \'Overboard Outboard Revisited\'

Who y'a callin' a 'big fat mushroom'? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Actually, beyond the power tools and assorted MDF remnants is a cleverly disguised, inverted Tinker. And to the right, out of shot, is a long narrow boat being refitted - with bed and bookshelves, apparently.

You can see the mate 'n his mate, the boat bicycle, the rolled dinghy, various deck top bit 'n bobs, a mast thingy and a yellow widget that hangs on the wires at the side.

And two pleased peeps.

What you can't see, further back, are the two swans 'H5N1' and 'H5N2', gobbling at the biscuits I forgot to move. Still, their time will come....

I've eaten swan, actually, and it makes an interesting alternative to factory chicken!
