been browsing the forum for a while but for some reason i couldnt make posts /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

i just read the news on their webpage that sealine has sacked peters!?

Obvioulsy they got it wrong getting rid of all their independant dealers in favour of one distributor/retailer /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It didnt seem to work with Fairline either as i recall they got shot of Peters too?

Imagine being sacked by both Fairline and Sealine within just 2 years!! What could go wrong for them next? Azimut perhaps?

I wonder how the new set up with Ancasta will work out for Sealine? 15 uk offices seems like a lot of coverage?

On a plus side, i guess there will be a lot of new sealines going extremely cheap lol! What warranty though? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In contrast the Peters setup worked very well for Fairline for a number of years, In fact, if it wasn't for Peters Fairline might not exist at all.

However, Peters did have a stranglehold on distribution and therefor pricing with Fairline, and it was the new management that wanted a larger slice of the cake by handling the distribution and dealer network themselves.

As for Sealine, it never seemed to work with Peters. They spent years knocking the brand down, and effectively put an end to the trade up incentive that worked so well for Sealine over the years.

It will be interesting to see how Sealine sit along side Ancasta's other big MoBo brand, Bavaria.

I might be wrong, but I think Opal had the Motorboats as well as the saily boats initially, but gave it up becasue they thought they wouldn't do well. May be they will get them back...

[fingers crossed] Westline don't produce enough boats to keep one shiney Peters office going for amonth, so no danger there /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif [/fingers crossed]

I wonder what all the ex sealine dealers and staff think of this?

Im sure they all saw this coming and will be chuckling all day.

I would be very worried if i had just ordered a new sealine /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

cant see why you should be worried.

You order the boat because you like it with the dealer/agent who gave you the best deal.
you will still get the boat delivered by whoever you placed the order with.

Prossers gave up the Sealine agency and sold off the boats they were obliged to buy at quite nice prices.

Not really,

Im also not that new a member i just havent been able to post! but my god ive wanted to on some topics lol!

I remember reading in mby how sealine dropped all their existing dealers to go with Peters which to me seemed like a pretty shrewd move so to see Peters once again sacked makes me a bit baffled!

Also i was thinking of buying a new 34-37ft sportscruiser and considered the new SC35 as a replacement for my existing boat and not being overly clued up with how things work with warranties and what have you i thought you would be on shaky ground buying from a company that appears to be no longer associated with the product? They may be under contract but will they still provide the customer service expected?

You are also badly informed.

Sealine did NOT drop all their dealers for Peters.

Burton Waters are and have been dealers for some time along with several other companies who's names escape me for the moment. Bray?

I have noticed a lot of sealines on the south coast have been bought from Burton waters (based inland on the outskirts of Lincoln), their overheads and northern wages will be a fraction of any south coast dealer.*
As such I presume Burton waters can offer 15% off the cost price of any south coast marina and still make a net profit.

On this basis can any South coast dealer make a go of it ?

Prospective new owners on the south coast will have a look locally and then phone Burton waters for discount

* I have seen the South Coast dealers, it is like a Party day in day out

2 hour lunch at the local riverside restaurant £20-£30 lunch break compared with a typical northern 'dinner' 1/2 hour and a £1 chip butty !
The cost of Partying in the south is much higher and higher wages are demanded(mortgages may also influence /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Ah sorry.

In terms of the warranty, it is supported by the factory so wherever you buy the boat, you have a right to have any issues covered by the warranty rectified. If you buy a car from a dealer that goes bust or just switches brands, the warranty on your car is still valid and that is the same with boats.

What complicates the boat market is unlike a car, quite a few items will be indiviually warrantied (anchor winches, engines, microwaves, navigation gear etc etc), and those warranties will not be suppplier provided either. What Peters should be doing is organising and co-ordinating warranty issues and work. Unless they actually go bust, I can't see why they would stop this aspect. Presumibly they will replace sealine with another brand, so if they keep you sweet as a customer they will hope to sell you a Bavbeneannue next time.

Pete

Burton Waters have had a south coast outlet for over a year and are selling Sealines through that outlet.

Same as they just expanded into Lowestoft.

Deal is done locally but ordered though Lincoln.

Oh and by the way.....WHEN you buy my lunch it will be more than 1/2 hour and a chip butty /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

through the grape vine

what tosh.

Read my post

Burton Waters have had the Sealine agency in Lincoln for quite a long time

never lost it
and were never too bothered about the Peters deal.

If you wanted a new or secondhand Sealine I would strongly recommend them.
