Flippin\' eejit

Me, that is.

A few weeks ago, I managed to drop the flexible nozzle from a funnel into my petrol filler pipe, which is situated at the stern, with a longish run to the tank situated under the centre of the cockpit (the boat is a Sea Ray 215). I have peered down the pipe with a torch but can't see anything, and have tried fishing blind for the nozzle with a piece of wire with a hook on the end, all to no avail. I don't think there is any danger but this state of affairs makes me uncomfortable and it is impeding the flow of petrol into the tank, with the result that filling up takes a while and makes me unpopular with fuel barge staff.

Has anybody got any other simple suggestions for retrieval (I am what you might call "mechanically challenged" so would be nervous about dismantling things, particularly when they have petrol running through them) or is this a job for the (expensive) experts when she comes out of the water?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

A lighted match thrown down the filler pipe should just about get the blockage out/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
I suggest you call in an "expensive expert" to carry out the above job. You are insured aren't you?

Re: Flippin\' eejit

I have been wondering about the lighted match solution but think I'll leave it until the end of October, thus saving overwintering costs whilst getting the maximum benefit out of the boat in the meantime.

(If my insurers are reading this, it's a joke, OK?)

Looks like it will have to be my cheque book that gets a roasting.........

)
