Just founf this video of a large container ship on youtube, it seems to be hitting some large waves, the guy recording the video does a few shots down the passageways inside the ship and if my eyes are not playing games on me there is massive amounts of movement in the superstructure, scary really!! but no worse than aeroplane wings I guess in reality?

There are various forumites (eg Mirelle) who are Masters of large container ships and tankers, and I am sure they must have some stories of hulls flexing and twisting - I have seen footage of a VLCC under way in pretty rough weather, and the bow section appeared to be heeled to port, while the aft section was definitely heeled to starboard......
If they were 'too' rigid, something would probably break.

"bow heeled to port, aft to starboard" My first boat (clinker built and 57 yrs old when I got it in the 60s) was like that all year round. Just a wee bit relaxed.
