Probably bad news for all of us. Stories like this eventually find their way to the ears of envious jobsworths in Whitehall, resulting in an additional nail in the coffin of self regulation of our hobby.

Here, here.
And it comes just days after the terrible canoe incident/loss of life up here in Gairloch, and the Majorca drowning, and Portugal etc etc.

The clock is ticking - Mandatory Personal Skills Licences, "MOT"s, Seaway Tax, Annual Safety Kit Audits, Sail/Motor Alcohol Limits, Spy Cameras on piers, buoys, craft, Limits on Numbers of Boats in a seaway/river, DVLA-style Boat Licensing etc etc etc

I think this is where we need the RYA to represent us in Whitehall. This government has no appetitite for additional regulation, unless it feels the cold wind of public opinion. All of us responsible boat users must ensure that we keep our own house in order, and give the minimum opportunity for interference.

I just hope whitehall don't read the RNLI magazines, rather too many stories of rescues that could have been prevented.

That's the one Drew. What was the outcome? Did anyone catch up with the boat?

HEAD OFFICE is berthed next to me at Cobbs Quay. I understand that the skipper of the offending boat has given his insurance details to HO and an insurance claim will be made,

Incidentally, i left my boat at Cobbs all weekend inorder to avoid the melee and enjoyed the airshow from the clifftop. Went down to the marina today - deserted -luverly !

I was there and so can only speculate on the reason behind the sinking but small speed boats can easily get swamped via the transom / rear of the vessel. This is particularly the case when not underway and with a number of people weighting the boat down.

I have been in this situation on a friend's boat way back in the day. The trick is to get moving so as to create a vortex which draws water away and in our case empty the beer cooler for use as a heavy duty bailer. Also avoid everyone going to the back of the boat to try and "help" think final scene from Italian Job in the coach :)

Not quite neighbour! He has given us his contact details but refuses to give us the details of his insurance until his insurers have inspected the damage...............Remind me, who hit who?
