hi anybody on the forum got there boat moored at fleetwood marina, just would like your comments on how it is run, is it worth the money what time have you got to play out and back in again on same tide.

thanks marc.

I kept a 27 Ft yacht in the marina for two years, the cost was approx £1000 per year. I found the marina staff, (Peter) most helpfull and willing to assist, also Fleetwood dock radio would always get you in and out as soon as practicable. There is or was, a small bar in the marina, opening times were always varied, but could be very amicable in there.
The tidal gate is roughly 2 hours either side of high water, this rather limits you unless you stay out for the day, returning on the next tide.

Spent a season in Fleetwood and agree with Davy s, very helpful staff but four hours tidal gate. Lots of nice trips out in Morcombe Bay and across to Piel Island.
The fact it was next to the factory outlets site was a bonus. I got to potter around the boat fixing this and that and enjoying the peace, while SWMBO went mouching round the shops. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The only downside was the drive through the fish docks to get to the marina. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not sure about the running of the marina etc. but used to sail out of their on a friends boats. Quickstep, (Carter 42), and Jubilee, (nic 31).

ISTR that the lock gates opened 2 hrs both sides of HW, and that there was sometimes an extra opening at 3 hours... but not sure about that.

had some great trips to IOM, Whitehaven, Kirkudbright and, having spent a few months at Glasson Dock earlier this year, if you time it right, it would make a nice weekend, or even a week. Very pretty area and The Victoria Pub does a fabulous Fish and Chips, (as well as everything else), and the greasy spoon on the other side of the lock do the biggest breakfast ever.

Never found the bar on the marina, and was never that impressed with the way it looks, but not a bad place to keep a boat for that part of the world.

Cheers

Richard

Much cheaper than Liverpool, less swanky, no overpriced 'Yacht Club'. The hard standing can be less secure than some places, when it's open it's open - anyone can drive in. The Marina itself is secured with electronic locks like most. Unlike Glasson, Preston, Liverpool it is actually on the coast, no mile(s) of channel to motor through before reaching open water.

I've just bought a new boat, currently in Liverpool, and for these reasons I will be moving her to Fleetwood as soon as time & tide permit.

See you there?

Steve

Never found the bar on the marina, - what! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It was easy to miss, just inside the marina entrance, near the office, it was a large portacabin! I think it used to be staffed by volunteers, there was talk of a new bar/clubhouse but never materialised. They occasionaly held coastguard flare demonstrations just outside on the spare ground, the bar was always open then,

Thinking back, it's probably because we were always moored on the other side of the dock, next to the shops. Also we usually arrived, got on the boat, and cleared off to somewhere for the week or weekend... or got back in the deep of the night after a long cold sail from somewhere, got off the boat and went home.
