The ship's pack of flares are, as usual, well out of date, and maybe should be replaced sometime soon.

I can understand a case of some pyrotechnics on board, but is there still a case for forking out on an offshore set, pretty well only for the Jester?

Greetings,

I will be taking a coastal pack, all my present ones are well out of date. I see no point in an offshore pack.

all the best

David

For the cost of a decent flare pack, is it not worth taking the extra's in the offshore pack? I know I'd be feeling pretty stupid sat in a liferaft with insufficient flares. Remember, the propellants degrade with time on out of date flares, so an out of date parachute flare will not reach its best altitude, it may not even launch at all although that is also true of new ones. I always buy Pains Wessex flares because they test a large percentage in manufacture to keep quality high. They're a bit more expensive though. I bought an offshore pack last year for £170 delivered so they're not a bankbreaker.
