Here in NZ there is a rumour that prices of flares are about to hike by 40%. The source is usually pretty reliable so it's being taken seriously and we're trying to establish whether this is true and if so, why? Seeing that a Cat 3 pack would rise to around $800 it's causing some consternation and with the kiwi dollar at record highs against other currencies it's even more suprising.

Anything happening with flare prices on your side of the world?

I enquired about the price of a set of miniflares the other day and was surprise that they had gone up by about 30/40%. When I commented, the chandler said all flares had gone up. He didn't know of any specific reason though and it wasn't just him.

Perhaps it is to cover the cost of liability insurance when they explode causing serious injury? How is the chap who was badly hurt demonstrating one (leading to a recall by Pains Wessex)?

Blimey ... don't tell me they are more than the 10 shillings I paid last time I bought ?

Re: Flare prices increasing.

Thanks for that. £950k isn't to be sneezed at and as he points out it could have been a lot more in the US. But the price hike of course may be nothing to do with the increased perception of personal injury risk.

I'm glad he is a lot better and has got a substantial settlement.

Re: Flare prices increasing.

All true, but nowhere does the system require recompense for over 6 months in hospital, countless operations, months on morphine and pain relief, stress on family, and certainly some reduction in quality of life.

However I saw Duncan today and he is increasingly lively and seems to have put it behind him very well. An amazing guy, they gave him 2 days to live at the start!
