flag etiquette and the pub

Given that etiquette dictates we should lower our ensign at sunset or 2000, what do forumites do when going to the pub at say 1800 to get a table ? Do you take your ensign down before you go, after you stagger back at 2300, or leave it up all night anyway, or send someone back aboard at 2000 to lower the flag!

Take it with you and lower it, with suitable aplomb, at the correct time.

Don't you only fly the ensign when onboard and between the hours detailed.... therefore when you leave to go to the pub, you take down the ensign... problem solved.

To a boater: ensign up probably means "I'm on board or nearby, don't nick owt but I might be good for a beer/glass of something."

To the lightfingered vandal: ensign up means, "hey, that might look good in my hand"
