Flag Antifoul - Good or Bad?

Previously boat we used the old "screwfix" flag a/f with success.

Our Griffon has Blakes Hard Racing, should we consider Flag on top or stick with Blakes (moored Hamble River)?

All coments good or bad welcome.

Flag top of the range product works as well for me (if not better) than others I have tried, and its lot cheaper. Darker colours work better than lighter colours hence I use black.

I understand that Screwfix dropped Flag A/F from their range as they didnt sell enough to make it worthwhile stocking it.

Most popular makes of antifouling have the same ingredients - cuprous oxide in a paint base. The percentage of cuprous oxide varies (cheaper antifoul tends to have less). More expensive antifouls can also contain added biocides to improve their performance. But, in general terms, there's nothing technically to choose between most popular brands. What does affect the performance is whether or not you apply enough of the stuff!

If you don't need to be able to scrub your boat regularly, you could consider an eroding antifoul rather than a hard racing type. The eroding antifoul won't build up such a thickness of dead paint over the years, so will be easier to strip off if you ever want to get back to gelcoat.

Flag has always really worked well for us in Chichester it´s compatable with all the major brands. Since Screwfix stopped Flag I ordered it from this site last year http://www.discountantifoul.com/ and I´ve not found it cheaper anywhere else.

Tried using the white flag and it never worked well for me, dark colours may be better

The white Flag from Screwfix always worked well for us in Conwy. Even the crane operator asked what we were using as there was so little fouling on the boat. It seemed to have copper powder in it.

I also heard that darker colours perform slightly better something to do with photosynthesis and UV?
