We're buying a Rutland 503 and wonder whether we need to buy the full Rutland mounting kit (£80). I realise that we need a s/s tube to mount the generator on, but would it be ok to lash/clamp this on to the exiting s/s arch that carries our mast when trailing?
The Rutland Mount Kit includes a 2m pole and two guys apparently. But Colin Jones in a PBO article talked of fixing his 503 with cable ties, and removing it at will - which sounds much more convenient than these wire guys etc, not to mention cheaper.
Has anyone any experience thay could pass on please?

When I bought my secondhand 503, it came with a s/s pole welded to a bracket. I needed a joining piece, and found a compnay that sells all of the bits separately. I can't find the name, but I found them using Google.

Thank you Steve. The site was useful because there's a picture of the kit there and we can see that the brackets would be wrong for our boat. Cheers.

Hi,I used the base of windsurfing mast I had lying about (wave mast so quite strong) which I cut to size and used SS jubilee clips to fit to stanchions and made my own 4mm wire supports. Its a permanent fixture but cheap ! you will find some pics on my website.

BTW, I also got the HRDX controller which is really good.....charges both batteries, battery guage for both and also allows me to connect my solar panel.

Cheers
