Fitting VP MD2020D temperature gauge

I'd like to add a temperature gauge to my VP MD2020D engine. There is a VP kit to do it but of course at a silly price - I'd like to use a standard car one.
I can't tell from the manual or the workshop manual or the spares website drawings where VP fit the sensor. I don't mean the over temperature alarm switch, the gauge sensor is separate. The only possible place I can see is the big plug in the side of the heat exchanger casing.
Can anyone confirm for me where it should go please, and if possible what thread it is?

Surprised to have had no response - someone must know!
Anyway after another look I still can't find anywhere except the big plug on the heat exchanger casing so have ordered a cheapo ebay gauge and an adapter from 1/8NPT to M18 for the sensor. Total just under £10. Fingers crossed.

I fitted cheapo Willhi temp controllers for my exhausts and they work just great.

If you are not using a calorimeter there is a take off point near the engine water pump that could be adapted also on some rally cars they fit a tee so two transducers can use a single point but I would be wary that the overheat warning may be less sensitive and could delay the warning.

In case you dont know never use teflon tape on the thread as this can prevent a good earth they are mostly tapered threads so maybe a tiny amount of sealant if any.

The calorifier take off is in use already.

Re teflon tape - on my previous boat the owner had used thick teflon tape on the brass plug holding the anode :-) I don't think there was any contact!
