Is this a DIY job? Reckon I can tackle most mechanical type jobs so advice appreciated if anyone has done this already. Looked on Moody Owners site but tecky info is for members only!

Join the club! and you'll get all the information you need - it's only £20 - it's worth that to get all the owners experience and you get the job done right first time. I'm biased as I've just joined and found it extremely helpful fo my Moody33 mkII needing a lot of TLC.
Should be an easy DIY job though - as long as you know your shaft & stern tube size.

I replaced the shaft seal when I had a M31 and put on a Volvo seal - it was cheaper and needed no maintenance once bled apart from the annual greasing. The Volvo seal is 25mm but the shaft in the Moody is 1" (25.6mm) In practice I had no problems in the 5years before I sold the boat. Whatever you decide to do the job is much easier if you take out the batteries and removed the battery boxes.

I had one fitted to our Moody 29 - no leaks which is great.

It wasn't a straight swap for the previous stern gland as the existing flange screwed on the end of the stern tube (not sure what this is called) wasn't big enough for the Volvo seal so the company fitting it had a larger one made. I don't think it was a big job as the old one is used as a template.

Definitely worth while for a bone dry boat in my opinion.
