I'm the new owner of a Legend 336 based in Sitges, 25k south of Barcelona.

I estimate that my wish list is approx £4,000 in the UK if I shop around. Thats not so easy in Spain when I don't speak the language and don't know the mail order houses (do they have them or is it a different system)

My main items are as follows and any advice will be appreciated,

a) Spade Anchor ( I'm impressed by his contributions)
b) DSC radio ( definately suit the good lady should I dissappear)
c) Electric Winch and do-das (the only way to go)
d) Basic computer hardware and software as TV, entertainment and supplement to Navtex
e) fitted cockpit seats ( did I mention the good lady and give and take)
f) Gel coat repair kits (minor), bilge pump float switch, repair to ST30 log, various blocks etc for my new cruising chute, miscellaneous comforts for living on board.

My wish list and reality are already in conflict, another contributer talked about being time rich or money rich and striking the balance. I retire next month (hence 'happychap') and anticipate being time rich.

you'll probably have more luck posting this on the liveaboard forum, lots of folks in the med there.

doubt you'll have much luck with uk mail order companies. you could try west marine in the usa as they are well used to shipping goods worldwide.

can't say i was too impressed with chandleries in mainland spain (galicia) but the canaries were pretty good - no experience of the east coast.

Great place Barcelona, but probably the most pricey in Spain, also greatest pilferage level of anywhere I've experienced.

I'd suggest your # a), c), e) & f), would be best done there.

b) and d) will be best done here (or even better in States) as being better choice and prices.

Barcelona is a lot less of a leisure yachting centre than Palma Mallorca. I don't have experience of the former but I do of the latter. Having things done there, like gelcoat stripping, woodwork, welding, tank construction, etc is definitely cheaper than in UK. Buying chandlery is the same as UK or more, as very little of it is made in Spain.

Be careful with buying computer stuff, most of the software will be written in Spanish and it makes life quite difficult.

I have first hand experience getting fitted out in Palma (Mallorca) and would echo that you'll get alot more success there. It's a much bigger Sailing Centre and most of the spanish are english or at least speak english!! Having experienced Spanish Customs and Postal Services I would go through a Company based in Spain and not have anything mailed direct...unless the saving is so considerable that you're prepared to take a risk!!

Es muy fácil

Barcelona tiene muchas instalaciones donde encontrar todo ese cacharreo que necesitas.

Si necesitas una traducción dimelo.

Un saludo.

Learning foriegn languages..

is easier and more pleasant if you have a native amiga.

Or so I was told by this French lady.

Another good forcing ground is to spend a time in a Spanish hospital with no English speakers.

However the former method is far more fun
