Fitting new windaes

I have splashed out on two new portlights for the heads and the hanging locker. They are aluminium with stainless steel screws. I have a knowledgeable friend who informed me that prior to fitting I should paint the screws with something to prevent the two metals reacting to each other over time. He could not remember the name of the treatment.

Any ideas chaps.

Duralac is the usual treatment. My windows are all aluminium framed, screwed to the boat with stainless steel screws. They are bedded in Sikaflex now, originally some other mastic, which seems to have prevented corrosion of the aluminium over the past 27 years.

Duralac ( barium chromate) paste. Many chandlers stock it ... is messy to use.

OR

Tef-Gel ... a Teflon based paste. Not so messy


Duralac is the better choice perhaps where the surfaces do not mate closely.

I spoke to the boss at the yard and he says that they would use some sort of clear lacquer - he seemed to know what he was talking about.
