i have changed impellors before but to refresh my memory i always watch a youtube video-----watched a very good video in which mechanic used copious amounts of grease on moving parts as he reasembled the outboard----but what grease to use??-----thanks

thanks richard -----grease used to lubricate rubber impellor to slide into position down drive shaft and to grease spline of drive shaft to help relocate----all internally sealed ----no contact with seawater except impellor and housing-----so silicone grease??

The trouble with you tube videos is that you seldom know the credentials of the persons making them. You don't know if the advice is good or bad, Personally id not regard " copious amounts" of grease as good advice.

Doing what the service manual suggests would be more sensible than some Youtube video

I'd probably do the same a Richard suggests and use a light coating of silicone grease on the impeller although in fact the service manual for my Evinrude says to use a light oil.

Joint sealants may or may not be specified for gaskets . A light water resistant may be specified for the various bolts or even a Loctite thread sealer for some.

It really is a case of RTM

You may find a manual for your engine on the boat info website, Boatinfo - The library, containing manuals, brochures and other technical documents from the last hundred years!

thanks for reply VicS ------the mechanic on youtube was really slick----the fastest i have ever seen---however i don t remember ever seeing so much grease put on------it was white which i now presume was wrong-----tried to get your link up-----failed probably due to my non existant computor skills

You say follow the manual but admit to using a different lubricant. A bit illogical.
