Fitting log transducer tube.. Stop leaks

I need to refit my plastic log transducer tube to my grp Hull. It was leaking so I removed it. What method of fitting is best to prevent it leaking again. Conventional advice is use plastic padding but I wondered if using glass fibre might make a better seal? ..... Or use silicon sealant....? I want to stop the constant leaks so any advice welcomed!

Whatever you do, do NOT use silicon under the waterline. Personally I'd use a polysulphide sealant. Plastic padding will set hard and be a problem if you ever want to change it.
