Hello, from a first time poster but not a first time visitor.

I’m looking for a little advice about mounting a chart plotter in an Ocqueteau 645. There is too little space around the instrument panel and wheel to fit the plotter so I think I’m left with two options. First is to build a mounting bracket to the side of the instrument consol but this would block access. The other is to fit the chartplotter, a Garmin 4010 weighing about 8lbs (3.5kg) overhead. I don’t want to recess the plotter into the overhead panel as the viewing angle would be wrong so I’m left with needing to fix it via the mounting bracket.
Does anyone here know if this is feasible? Unfortunately, I cannot see a way of getting behind the interior trim that the bracket would be fixed to so I couldn’t bolt the bracket in place. I guess I’d need to fix a sheet of wood across the inside roof panel to spread the load out then fix the plotter bracket to that.
Any comments, suggestions or insights of similar experience would be valued.

Thanks for the suggestion Phil. I've been down to the marina today and puzzled over it. I like the suggestion of a plinth and will try that as an extension to the instrument console, hopefully there will be space.
