Hi guys,

So this is a maybe, I'm a fan of all chain.

I'm looking at a boat that has a fore anchor locker.. I would want to fit windlass and new chain, probably oversize my anchor if I can afford to..

It's a samphire 29
Or a Gibsea 76

They both have that annoying locker.

So my plan was 20mm marine ply, take the entire locker out, ply in the gap, then fix it with some nice big plates and fiberglass to make it "part" of the deck to then fit the windlass? Obviously I would use a big spreader plate underneath and move the oversized cleat to suit doing the same underneath for the cleat.

Can anyone see a problem I might not have foreseen?

Or have you done it before/got some info

Or indeed a windlass is sat on your kitchen table and you are being nagged to get rid if it? (Even if it's broken I'll fix it)
