I am going to fit a second bilge pump (electric) to my boat dose any one know if I can use the same outlet pipe as my manual one?

can't see why not, as long as you put one-way valves before the Y - piece on each pump (probably not entirely necessary on the manual pump assuing it's a diaphragm one). this is exactly what I have.

However, you might consider it worth going to the hassle of adding a new skin fittingand pipe so there is some redundancy in the system. If one outlet was blocked/pipe split etc, and you invariably find these problems outat the least opportune moment!

I think I may have just convinced myself to improve my system!

Sailorman, How does your arrangement prevent flow from the manual pump returning via the electric one? I have a similar arrangement but am considering fitting an NRV on the delivery from the electric pump. The downside is that an NRV would reduce the output from the electric pump. I've never checked whether reverse flow takes place but will do next time I visit the boat.

You can intall a non return valve/s depending on your set up. If you have the head room a simple high loop in a hose may work avoiding the cost and problems with non return valves.

copper fittings

32 x 32 x 15 Tee
with a 15 bend off the 15 above pointing up the flow
both the existing & the new 12m/m pipes have a loop & the 2 pipes are beside each other from where they join & over the loop water cant get from one into the other as they join below the loop .
strongly advise a Diaphram pump out of the bilge.
mine is abaft the engine ( 10 seasons old never been a problem ) & can run dry. have a strainer close to the bilge

I can't visualise this set up - any chance of a sketch? seems like a good idea. Do I take it that your electric pump is a diaphragm type - if so it can't take reverse flow anyway. Or am I being thick?

I made a tall-ish "Y" out of copper pipe and fed two outlets from pumps into the top legs. The bottom leg went to the skin fitting. Water just flows down and doesn't try to clamber back up into the other pump.

I have fitted a (smallish) hand pump inline with the electric pump, the hand pump will happily suck past the electric's impellor and the electric pump doesn't have any problem pushing water through the handpump's non return valves.

(I do also have a larger Whale pump with its own seperate pipe)

I inherited a second small electric pump t-ed into the manual pump's line. It works, but the electric pump capacity is reduced. No water gets back past the manual pump's exit valve.

However, I have not tried pumping the manual pump to see if water goes back down to the electric pump. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

i am also thinking of doing this and after alot of research found it best to fit new pipes on th opposite side so if there is any water in the boat causing it to heal over then atleast you have one that will do the job
