Hi Fella's Jay Jay again, This time I am looking for advice as to how wire the regulator to my Johnson 1978 25hp model 25EL78C, there are three wires coming from under the flywheel 2 of them are Grey and the other 1 is Red, any ideas how to wire this up please,

25EL78C should have 3 wires coming from the stator coil colour coded yellow, yellow with a blue tracer and yellow with a grey tracer. They are the AC output from the stator
These connect to the similarly colour coded wires on the rectifier at the multiway terminal strip mounted on the the engine block near where the rectifier should be mounted ( the rectifier may have 3 plain yellow wires in which case it does not matter which is which)

There should be a red wire from the same terminal on the starter solenoid as the main battery cable. This connects to the red wire on the rectifier at the fourth terminal of the above terminal strip. This is the positive output from the rectifier.

The negative connection is the metal case of the rectifier and is grounded to the engine by its mountings

Thanks once again for getting back to me vicS it always seems to you, it's a bit late now but I will have a better look in the morning and let you know how I get on. Cheers John

Yes You were right once again and many thanks, I looked again at the wires and when I said they were 2 Grey and 1 Red they were connected to the wires you said the 3 colour coded Yellow, Yellow with a blue tracer and Yellow with a Grey tracer, it will teach me to look properly in the first place next time. Your a life saver VicS Cheers Jay Jay

Hi VicS, I now have the rectifier and it is exactly the same as the one displayed, So!! if I connect the red to red on the block, 1 yellow to red to the battery, 1 yellow to black to the battery then I am left with a last yellow can you explain what happens with that one please, does it go to negative on the housing somewhere ??? Thanks Jay Jay
