If I fit a coupling and it extends my shaft by 32mm this means the prop will be 32mm further from the p bracket. Is there a recommended distance the prop should be from the p bracket? Will this cause any problems or will I need to cut the shaft at the gearbox end?
Distance to the rudder is not a problem

Accepted is 1.5 times shaft diameter

Normally a gap of about 15mm or so is left between the P bracket and the front face of the prop. This is to allow free flow of water through the cutless and to allow the shaft to move backwards and forwards as you go in and out of gear +/- perhaps 3-4mm. Quite common to add about 25mm gap to fit a rope cutter so overall around 40mm - roughly 1.5 * shaft diameter on a 1"/25mm shaft. However not uncommon for it to be a bigger gap with no adverse effects.
