Hia all, Just starting to make plans to work on my 25ft Bermudan Sloop. At the moment it has no guard rails or other deck edge fittings, which I rather like.
One thing I would like to fit would be a pushpit round the edge of the cockpit area.
Question 1: What is the idea height of a good pushpit and how far forward should it extend without destroying the lines of the boat.
Question 2: As a single hander, what gear would you hang on the pushpit for coastal cruising

If you like the yacht like that keep it like that!

The problem with small yachts, I find, is that pushpits are often too low - a sort of aesthetic compromise between keeping it in proportion to the yachts size and safety. In the end low pushpits/guardrails will only help trip you overboard when mooring alongside single-handed - but then I am from that camp that has just removed stanchions and pulpit in order to repair deck and previous leaks. I have decided they will stay off!

As for question 2, hang anything you like of them - even gives the option for (ugly IMHO) dodgers. But if you decide not to fit a pushpit then I put my life-bouy over the main hatch (rests flat on custom wooden cradle).

The name alone puts me off from ever having one. It's a totally false analogy with pulpit, which comes from the latin pulpitum, meaning a scaffold or platform.
Nothing whatever to do with pulling, or pushing.
