Hi everyone,

Just bought a Westerly centaur, first boat and loving it, just havent got the time to get out in it as much as i would like

i bought a taylor paraffin heater from ebay, not sure where the best place is to fit it and wondered if anyone else had fitted one to a centaur or had any suggestions as to where the best place would be.

thanks in advance

Don't know where you'd put it in a Centaur. The main bulkhead would be the obvious choice, but there's seating in the way I think. And you'd be lucky to get the minimum flue height. A hot air heater would be a much safer solution.

Fit it in your shed and buy an Eberspacher or Webasto for the boat!

And miss the joys of flickering flames? I have a Sigmar heater which works well (albeit without the ease of pushing a button) and makes the dark nights so much more homely.

Take no notice of Taylors deniers. :D

Posts about problems with Eberspachers/Webastos are always appearing here but when did anyone ever see a post asking for advice about repairing a Taylors heater?

On a Taylors heater there's not much that can't be fixed with a few simple tools and a spares. No electronic modules, no wiring, no fuses ....

So, where would you mount it in a Centaur then?

hi all,

thanks for the advice

lw395: cant afford the heaters or the amp hours

pvb: the main bulkhead sounds about the only place i can think of. i'll only be using it when stopped so i could put a flu extension on it

sophie: great site and a cozy looking wee boat, i assume the heater and paraffin tank are integrated. and the towel warmer is a must, like the oil lamp too

dgadee: aye ye canny beat an open fire, maybe i should burn peats :)

parsifal: thanks for the encouragment, cost me a hundred quid on ebay and yer right nae elecktrickery

cheers

I'm not familiar with the layout of a Centaur but I'm sure I'd find a place for it, even if it meant a bit of carpentry. Main bulkhead or coat locker perhaps? Or between the forward bunks?

With the missus insisting on me finding a place for it - I would find a place for it! Very important to keep the cook happy :D

I saw the very heater (& matching cooker) and had much the same idea. However, the only place I could find to put the thing was in the wet locker (A layout, opposite the heads)

I have put a top loading fridge on the stbd bunk alongside the sink which could otherwise have been a possible location for the Taylors.

I have a similar sized/shaped gas heater which I have had for years but cannot find anywhere safe to fit :0( (including the shed)
