I have often thought about trying out my old 'sounding' sextant for navigation.
I used it for years but just for inshore work, position fixing from shore objects.
It would be nice to try my hand at some sun shots but not if I have to buy a new sextant!!
Problem is that there are no filters and as far as I can see no provision to fit them.
There is a small filter which fits over the eye piece but I think this was more for reflected glare than looking directly at the sun.
There is a bracket in the general area of the 'object' mirror but this is used for a plate which holds a 90degree prism.
Does anyone know of a way that this sort of sextant can be fitted with a filter? Just something to fit over the mirror or the telescopes index lens would do.
Cheers
