Does anyone know a reliable and cheap "boatbuilder" /handy guy (in Southampton area) who can turn their hand to most things on a boat....right now I need some small bits and bobs done and a heater fitted in the next 10 days.

Make sure that whoever you hire has adequate insurance in case he / she mkes a mess of your boat, and be aware that most marinas arround here charge contractors to work within the premises.
As a rule, as with almost everything else, you get what you pay for. If someone is "cheap", it could be that they are not too good. A wrongly fitted heater could allow corbon monoxide fumes to enter the cabin.

Agree with the point about marinas only allowing certified contractors to work unless extra payment is made. It puts most casuals out of the box unless you are out on the piles
