Looking to take my boat down to portbury and fishing on the severn river but im to scared, can anyone give me some advise on depths and tides, what and what not to do?
Well, you are only going to get good depth data off a chart, and relate the chart to the tide tables that you can get everywhere. Check the Portishead Quays Marina website, and there is a tide chart on there for this year. Depending on the draft of your boat, you should then calculate the tide window, probably 2.5 hours either side of high tide. It also depends where you plan to moor up. In a leisure boat, you will not be mooring in Portbury. Again, Portishead Marina is your best bet. Actually, there are fishing charters out of the Marina, so you might have a look at going on one of these before tempting things with your own boat if you are not confident? Also Compass Sea School works out of Portishead, Jake and Cath are fantastic people, and you might want to spend 4 hours with one of these for some training?
