Recently I have seen several small boats anchoring mid channel for line fishing. An example was at Hampton Court where there were boats moored alongside and passenger boats running up and down river. The Environment Agency Thames Guide states that they should not obstruct the navigation channel but is a small boat obstructing the channel when fishing mid river ?

I was always lead to believe that anchoring in the Fairway was verboten. Furthermore I think trolling isn't allowed either but I have seen several boats doing this on my stretch recently.

I too thought that but the vessel at Hampton Court altho' subject to sound signals just shook his fist at the passenger boats. More recently when commenting to another vessel line fishing in the centre of the river which was very difficult to see due to the sun direct ahead on the water I was told that it was allowed.

Boatone - Thank you but I have been unable to find the legal position. It does appear to be potentially dangerous.

Should the 'no trolling' comment be in the Lounge?

I don't care what anyone says, if I was a fish I would expect what's under my gill covers to be damaged by a human shoving his fingers in there. No matter how well intentioned the human was.

They swim off allright, have caught the same fish again in the past.

The edges of these gill rakes on the pike are razor sharp, see the cuts on the hands.
My lad cut his knuckle today on the pike se it in the pics.
They are the oldest natural fresh water fish in our country, there biggest fear is not the fishermans hooks and hands.
But the eastern Europeans stomach we return our pike to there waters.

Is this being Grumpy ?

Wot is it about blokes, that when they wish to comment on a woman with whom they do not agree. ?
