I'd like to install a fish finder on board - I've read on the forum that some have fitted the transducer on the inside of the hull.
Can anyone tell me - which model fishfinder they have used with which transducer e.g. Eagle unit combined with the surface skimmer transducer etc. And which method of attachment they found best.
Cheers.

Hi I fitted a garmin 160 last year glued with decent silicone the transom mount transducer next to where the old one was fitted in the engine bay had no probs

cheers Joe

Think I've got a Plassmo. It was a hell of a problem to find the right place for the transducer, think the rep had to come and do it in the end. I was not involved. Best way is to fill a bag with water and try transducer on that, keep moving it about till you find a good place about half way down boat. I find that some times the depth sounder dont work. Some times it's the fish finder in some places. Bit [--word removed--] when they both pack in!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

its a popular thread, so have a look through the archives here and PBO forum. Silicon sealant, bags of water, araldite, tubes of castor oil.... all sorts! Essentially, it is dead simple, so dont panic. You do however need to find a spot on the inside of the hull that will have a clean flow of water beneath it. IE not next to the props! If you have a depth sounder thats a good guide as to location. Then its a good idea not to glue it permanently only to find out its not a good location, and you cant get the transducer off! You may find your speed causes a loss of signal, so it is worth a little experimenting. Just dont expect it to work at 40 knts! Have a read back through, and PM me if you have any questions. But step 1. find a location the transducer works nicely ,step 2, glue it on... er, thats it!!

I fitted an Eagle Fish finder to my Corniche 2 years ago.
I used the standard external transducer ( that can also be used inside)
I found the best place by testing with a golf ball size bit of Plasticine squashed.
Then I glued in place with epoxy glue. YOU MUST STIR SLOWLY TO AVOID BUBBLES IN THE MIX.
I have also used fiberglass resin that works well.
