Fiscal Year ( NB )

Can anybody enlighten me as to why the fiscal year starts on April 6th?
Its a question that has been bugging me for a while but have never got around to asking. With the way some chancellors deal with the budgeting of UK possibly the 1st April would be more appropriate!!!

I could look this up as I know I have it in a book somewhere. Its to do with when calender was changed and some extra months were added in and what was once the beginning of the year then became April. And not to tax the revenue (sorry) the tax year was kept in the same place.
