The winter months have slowly dissolved away, the servicing is complete, and the first trip of 2008 is underway :-)

We were pretty lucky with the weather, the previous week had been pretty blowy, and whilst the forecast was OK, the best day was the Friday, so everything was tidied up and ready to go.

We have had some problems with our throttles, so over the winter had complete new cables laid from the Flybridge (It would have been cheaper to have a new flybridge fitted time I did it all in parts - next time make note to just replace them with EDC and morse controls) and so a quick sea trial was in order.

First problem was they fitted the controls upside down, so the boat not only went the wrong way, it went the opposite way as well. Good job we tested them before we let the ropes go.

The engineer turned up within 10 minutes and made teh corrections, everything seemed tickety boo, and off we went.

In Alcudia they have built a new fast ferry terminal, and here you can see the huge Cat as it left for Barcelona between the yachts.

The marina is still very quiet, and there were plenty of spare moorings, although for spare read empty, as this place heaves come April.

Waiting sensibly until the ferry had gone, we slipped away into absolutely beautiful waters, I had forgotten just how blue the sea can be in the sun.

We took a run up the side of the bay, and round the corner to Cala Baix, my wife persuaded me to have my picture taken, not the jumper, as its still a little chilly in the wind /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

and of course I got my own back with a picture of Mrs Great Escape, well wrapped but enjoying the backdrop. There was a very gentle swell, so we decided to head back to calmer waters in the bay.

The sun was really warm, and once we anchored in Alcanada out came lunch, and we enjoyed a couple of hours of just watching the world go by and reading Karin Slaughter books.

After that the wind picked up to about F3, so we decided enough was enough and pottered back to Alcudia, managing a top speed on 20knots, over the usual 30knots, because of the fluffy bum.

Alcudia is pretty unique in Majorca as having a great sheltered marina, and wonderful beach, one of the longest on the island. We took an evening stroll, and this is the beach view from 100 yds from my boat

Finally after a nice cafe con leche, we watched the local fisherman catch absolutely nothing, and admired the sunset

And as a great end to the day, we had a nice display of red sky as the sun dipped awy behind the mountains

This is my third year in Majorca, and we have finally got the right moorings, right people and of course fuel at 1€ and a bit, it really has been a great start to the season

Great stuff, Martyn. I hope our trip next week is as good

Great pictures, thanks /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

But where are the pictures of the boat?? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks absolutely horrid. You'll be bringing the boat back to UK sharpish, I should think....NOT /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nice pics Martyn, thanks. Brings back memories - I chartered a phantom 42 at alcudia in 1999 so I recognise many of the places in your pix. Weahter can be great at this time of year. Pity the sea is a bit cold though!

Great pics Martyn & Heather.

Reading your post from SV in Dublin City Moorings - beautiful evening over here just now,

We recognise those spots being regular visitors to N Mallorca.

My kids jumped off the mountain (with the masts) strapped to Oscar and his paraglider.

The shallow water on the other side of the marina is so clear and very warm in Summer.

Great pics - post some more in April, please.

All the best from the happy crew of SV2.

Hey what can I say, thanks everyone for the positive feedback - I lied a little about the F3, it was actually about F4 when we headed back.

Mike - I hope you get a good window to get out and about on your next trip!

Peter, are you over in Majorca this year with J? Be nice to meet up if you are.

And of course Mr SV, what a great way to spend an elongated St Patricks day/week. ;-)

JFM -- the autopilot showed 18c for the water, dipped a toe in, but it was very very cold.

Hopefully back out in April, and a little warmer.
