So, left the dock no probs, thinking about all the advice I've been given, leave ropes where I can easily grab em etc etc. Tootled off down the Straits, through the Swellies, no probs, just approaching Bangor pier the ruddy oil light starts flashing, phoned Kwackers cos I knew he was in Porth Daniel as I'd dropped Liz off there a bit earlier for day 2 of the PB2 course. 'if it sound okay limp it in' says he. So, havin a bit of mechanical knowledge I crawls to P Daniel and pulls it in alongside the fuelling berth, just as a bleedin great trawler goes past making a wake the size of a house! Boat goin up and down like crazy but the parrrot and me drink stayed put!Gets it tied up, hood off, oil level okay, so decided to limp back to Port Dinorwic as it still sounded fine. Gets back, reads the book, flashing light means it's due an oil change!
Anyway, docked her fine, and cancelled flashing light off as oil was changed about 6 months ago.
Seriously though, thanks to Kwacker for his immediate assistance and support in my trip back to PD, suppose a drink might be owed, and Porth Daniel for letting me use their facilities and offering assistance, cheers guys!

Never mind about alarms and bells....

Glad you made it OK. Heard about your oil light problem last night(some burbling Welshman phoned me - I think it was a wrong number /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif). I hadn't heard about your problem with the trawler. Are you sure it wasn't being driven by two yotties out of Conwy thinking that you were me?

Well done on your berthing. I am thinking you have a Suzuki O/B, the red light is there for a purpose and just cancelling it because the oil was changed 6 months ago is not the right response. We run Suzuki (2 x 200hp) and the oil gets changed about every 6 weeks sometimes more. Red light means you are due a change. It works from the engine management system. Just pulling the kill button to stop the light flashing is well ........................

How many hours have you done in that 6 months?

In and out of the berth was actually a piece of cake, the weather was very kind though, not sure it would've been quite so relaxed had it been blowy. Once the lines were released I had plenty of time to jump on, make the lines safe, and get to the wheel before she moved at all. Coming back, just backed her in to the berth, stepped on the pontoon with the bow and stern lines in the approriate hands, dropped em on the pontoon cleats, then took my time securing them off and fitting springs, job done!
Even managed to fit in the grinning and tea making Powerskipper!!

Have same engine, had same alarm and oil light flashing last year in the Solent... it certainly does give you a start! Dropped anchor, engine cover off, checked oil level... all OK... only had around 2 miles to home port so gentle cruised back. Read the manual again and yes, oil change due! But as it had only run around 5 hours since last oil change it appeared service engineer had not reset oil warning system. It would be nice if they could have a separate lamp which isn't the oil warning lamp (if that makes sense...) perhaps a green "service needed" lamp??? At least it wouldn't panic us all... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
